Tex Hill, a Flying Tiger pilot and later a P-51 pilot won the medal of honor in this aircraft. Fitted with six .50 cal machine guns, it was also adept at ground attack.
To their credit, the British 12 cylinder supercharged Rolls Royce Merlin engine really made this the plane to beat in all WW2 aerial combat when it was introduced to the P-51.
