P-38 Lightning T-shirt
The P-38 Lightning T-shirt embodies the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, which entered into WW2 at an early point. It was designed to be a fighter with the fastest speed of any contemporary. Due to its twin-engine supercharged V-12 engines, it proved to be just that. It set many speed records and was used as a super-fast reconnaissance plane throughout the war. It saw service in every theatre of the war in Europe and the South Pacific.
Charles Lindburgh improved the performance of the P-38 so that it could get twice its range, which led to the famous shootdown of Admiral Yamamoto early on in the war. America's highest-scoring fighter ace, Richard Bong, shot down 40 aircraft in the P-38. It is the predecessor to the Lockheed F-35 Lightning II which bears it name.
